NEW YORK –
Georgia O’Keeffe’s iconic flower painting Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1 shattered the previous record for a female artist at auction, selling for a remarkable $44,405,000, nearly three times its presale estimate.
The painting is a well-known example of O’Keeffe’s celebrated flower series and was among three works by the artist offered by the O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico, which are being sold to benefit its Acquisitions Fund.
The historic price helped drive the American Art sale to a total $75,395,500.
