School’s Mission:

School’s Vision:
The community of Tesuque Elementary School will be recognized for providing the highest quality of education for all students within a safe and caring environment.

Our School’s Operations and Functions:
Tesuque Elementary School is located in the heart of the Tesuque Village. The school, under the umbrella of the Santa Fe Public Schools, has served the children of Tesuque, Chupadero, Rio en Medio, and the Tesuque Pueblo since 1930. Tesuque elementary has the highest proportion of Native American Students in the District. Tesuque Elementary receives a grant annually from the Susan Kathleen Black Memorial Foundation which is used to enhance our art curriculum. The school has established a Native Heritage Tewa Language Bilingual Program in partnership with the Tesuque Pueblo. The Tesuque Elementary Destination Imagination teams have qualified for World Competition two out of the past four years. Last year, the Destination Imagination Program won the state competition and participated in an international level competition in Tennessee.

In 2009-2010, the school had active programs from the National Dance Institute for grades 3 and 4 and Fine Arts for children and teens. The school has two bands and a violin program called Strings in our Schools. Inquiry Based Science has been an important aspect of the Science curriculum and has been supported by the Santa Fe Science Initiative. The Lucy Calkins Writer’s Workshop is used at the school and this is integrated into the literacy blocks at every grade level. The level of writing produced by the students is extraordinary and there are celebrations held throughout the year to share the pieces with families.

Why Our School is Unique:
Tesuque Elementary School has a very supportive and active Parent Teacher Association. The PTA seeks out and prepares grants for the school that enhance the academic curriculums through creative endeavors and artistic expression. The children are supported after school with the Strings in Our Schools violin program as well as after school Title 1 tutoring in the areas of reading and math. Girls basketball, boys basketball, cheerleading, wrestling, and swimming have been programs traditionally offered at Tesuque. All these programs are supported by the PTA. Last year, the Boy’s Basketball team placed second at the end of the year tournaments in their division.
